Today the Wireless Innovation Platform Labs (WIP Labs) will be inaugurated by Shri. Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal.

Kolkata will be the center of WIP Labs activities thus bringing several high tech jobs to the area. The goal of the company is to develop 4G technologies starting from personal networks (PNs). On path to 4G solution, WiMAX and 3GPP-LTE will be developed.

The budget required by WIP Labs is over Rs 400 crores in the period of 3 years. Within the first 3 years WIP Labs will hire over 300 people.

Our strategy is to attract expert resources from around the world and to recruit the locals and train them as future skilled researchers and developers, this action will lead to focal of highly skilled R&D personal and economic growth of West Bengal in particular and India as a whole.

The initial activities will consist of WIP Labs working on solution to provide wireless coverage to Kolkata and thereby allowing deeper penetration of internet. We hope to achieve fully wireless for the Center of Kolkata within year and half, then phase out to the suburban Kolkata followed by Rural West Bengal.

WIP Labs will provide the future economy of West Bengal in terms of creating portfolio of Intellectual Property Rights and will facilitate incubation of start-ups.

WIP Labs will be the first commercial company in India that will strengthen India’s ICT economy by diversifying core competence in hardware, IPRs, manufacturing and enhance Indian integrated education between industry and academia.

WIP Labs will make Kolkata the global IPR bank in 4G.

WIP Labs employment model will facilitate local students from business, marketing, engineering and other disciplines to continue with higher education while working at leading and bleeding edge technology.
